The S230 from Nikon is a sleek and sexy camera targeted at point" and shoot lovers. The camera weighs a mere 128g and comes with a bright 3" Touchscreen display that doubles up as the viewfinder. Being a touchscreen, there are very few buttons on the camera body. On top, there is just the power button, shutter release button and the zoom rocker around it. On the back, there is a mode selection button and the review button placed next to the display. The battery and card slot are at the bottom, and strangely even the micro USB connector (for both data transfer and video out) is placed at the bottom.
In terms of performance, the S230 snaps images at 10MP resolution and has a 3X optical zoom NIKKOR lens. It features electronic vibration reduction for best results and comes with 44MB onboard memory. The images taken at ISO 400 and above were extremely grainy. Images taken at ISO 200 were great, but the colors became unnaturally vivid.
Macro shots taken by the camera were simply outstanding with excellent details and sharpness. You also get extras like the ability to draw captions on your photos using the touchscreen.
The S230 is the cheapest point and shoot camera available with a touchscreen in the market. If you like to flaunt gadgets with new technologies, opt for this, else you can look at the Canon IXUS 100 IS as an alternative.
