To capitalize on the Eee PC craze, A-Data has jumped onto the white plastic bandwagon and co-branded its latest venture, the S701 "sports series" USB drive as "Eee PC-compatible", although it's just as compatible with any other PC, just like any other pen drive. The S701 is quite small even for a USB flash drive and has a rubberized body with raised dots and a solid metal frame for better grip. Most Eee PC models don't have enough storage space, which is why Eee PC users will welcome 8 additional gigabytes.
Instead of the usual USB plug, the device has a tab-like design. While the form may seem appealing it can get frustrating as it fits into the USB port both ways. So you could plug it in but your computer simply wouldn't detect it and you'd be left wondering why. Plug-and-play be damned, you need to get the plug part rightl The tab could also break off, without the metal housing for protection. Still, 8 GB is quite tempting for the price offered.
We tested the drive by transferring single files and multiple files as well as a OnE read/write test in Everest Ultimate. The performance of the how drive is mediocre, and the read/write whio speeds cannot be called fast. The transfer'11an speeds are quite consistent and the did not lag behind when it came to transferrin\he Ie multiple files. However for an 8 GB drive jece', this is consistent and fast enough to meet-lowe most users' everyday needs.
