MyBoxHD NV300 is a media player that can play digital files off USB media, it can record or pause live TV from a set top box and it enables internet browsing on your TV. There are two versions available; this one, the NV300 for those with digital set top boxes, and the NV300T for those using analog cable.
To set it up for playback of files is pretty simple. Just plug the power adapter in, connect the box via HDMi cable (not supplied) and plug in some media on a FAT32 formatted USB pen drive or HDD. The dark interface is attractive but sluggish compared to other media players we've reviewed (notably the WD1V). Format support is quite extensive, including support for AVI, MOV, MKV, RMVB, MP$ and FLV. But this is a 720p player; it cannot playback files encoded at very high bit rates or 1 080p digital files ripped from Blu-ray discs. While the file itself may start playing, the video will play at an unwatchable 8 to 10 frames per second. To record and pause TV, you need to route the set top box AN output through the NV300 and then to the TV. An IR blaster is supplied that controls the set top box using the NV300 remote.
If you're looking for a standalone media player to play your digital files in full HD, the Western Digital TV HD Media Player st Rs 7500 is a much better device. From a converged device point of view, (DVR+media player + internet 1V), its worth a look.
