Shadow copies are utilized as a way to addition your regular endorsement and to allow administrators or still consumers to restore previous versions of their files if wanted. It is only available on Windows Server 2003 and the Shadow Copy Client must be installed on each workstation.

After it is allowed on the server and the client is installed on the workstation you will have an option to reinstate previous accounts of shared files and folders. When you right click a file or folder you will observe a Previous Versions tab. There will be preceding versions of files and folders that have been before changed that you will be equal to decide from.



The intervals for the duplicates to be made can be set on the server to suit your requirements. Be sure not to perform it too often or during climax network usage time or else your network traffic will undergo.

From here you can decide which edition to go back to. You have the choice to either view the file to observe if you desire to restore it, copy the file somewhere else so you can contrast the copy to the current edition or restore the file over the existing copy. If the file has not been changed then you will not observe any previous versions to be able to return to.

Setting up Shadow Copies on the server is quite easy. Right click My Computer and select Manage. Then you will right click Shared Folders; click All Tasks and then Configure Shadow Copies. You will observe the pattern screen.



From here you can select which drive or drives you want to enable Shadow Copies on. You can arrange options such as what drive you want the copies to be completed on and how much space you want to assign to the copies. You can also delete earlier copies to get disk space back. There are also choices for preparation the frequency that the copies will be made.

One important note to remember is if you try to go back to a previous edition while logged in nearby on the server you will not have that choice unless you browse to the location using a UNC path rather than a local path.
