It lets multiple users to log into the same computer at the similar time and use it distantly.

So as to utilize Remote Desktop you will need to recognize a couple of belongings. If you are using it in the on the same network as the computer you desire to connect to then all you need to do is kind in the computer’s IP address or computer name. If the remote computer has a static IP address it creates it easier to use because you will forever recognize what the IP address of the remote machine is.

If you are using Remote Desktop more than the internet you will need to recognize the public or internet IP address of the remote computer since you will not be able to use the computer name. You will also need to confirm that the public IP address you are using is mapped to the personal IP address of the remote computer. What this denotes is that when you connect to the public IP address it obtains forwarded to the actual IP address associated with the remote computer. This can typically be setup through your router or firewall.

On the General tab you can enter data such as the computer name or IP address of the computer you desire to connect to. If you desire to automatically log into the remote computer or field you can enter the data before clicking on Connect.

On the Display tab you can decide what resolution and color depth you would like to employ for the remote connection.

The Local Resources tab permits you to set options such as hearing the remote computers sounds through your speakers, permitting Windows key combinations and sharing hard drives, printers and serial ports.

The Programs tab permits you to start a particular program after the connection is completed by typing in the path to that program.

The connections tab has fixed configurations for your connection conditional on how you are connecting to the remote computer. Options comprise Modem, Broadband, LAN and Custom. If you choose custom you can choose such options as whether or not you desire the remote computer’s background to show. This would absolutely slow down your connection over a dial up modem since it would have to move the desktop picture over your internet connection while you are trying to work.

If you are wondering how you can employ this handy feature of Windows XP on your non XP computer, then you are in fortune. The Remote Desktop Client can be downloaded and mounted on a computer running Windows 95 and up. Click here to download.
