I7 all the means!!! Merely put it is a far improved processor, more power core for core and megahertz for megahertz!!!

Biggest difficulty for i7 is the exclusive components but prices are gradually coming down, ddr 3 memory has gotten a lot cheaper...

Unless you are bound for overclock your memory to 1600 or above you won’t perceive much of an increase in speed, but triple channel memory will create a vast instant impact...

Yeah, but what if the OP's brother doesn't desire a gaming rig? Near 100% load all the time doesn't sound akin to a gaming rig to me.

Realize from your bro accurately what he's doing and we can improve advice.

8 GB of RAM?

I suppose your brother purchased the LGA 1156 in place of the 1366...

Congrats to him, but the lifespan on that socket is pretty unclear! It’s a good CPU, have fun with it...

If you departed 1156 you've shortchanged yourself, if you've gone 1366 with 8GB RAM you're killing triple-channel memory so leap up another 4GB to obtain it back.
