The trend of pushing out more and more bland interactive experiences in already overpopulat video game genres has slowly begun to take it toll. Once every fortnight we get to test out new titles that we can hardly distinguish from several others th we've played before. Section 8 would have been doubly impressive if it were released a couple of yea ago, but today it really fails to offer anything different more, than most space marine FPS titles already available.
The actual differences between Section 8 II the games that it manages to ape are very much superficial. First up, the SP campaign can be easily compared to that of the Unreal Tournaments of this world. In other words, it is so terrible that it would be wise to pretend that it doesn't even exist. The MP component follows the same old bruised and abus trend of pitting two 16-player teams against each other. The players move at the speed of snails, chipping away at each other's health pools. Players can use their high powered jetpacks, for jumping in and out of trouble.
Probably the one cool aspect in Section 8 is the random nature of its missions. Out of nowhere, an objective such as a convoy will occasionally spawn. One team gets tasked to protect it, while the other tasked to destroy it. These small random skirmishes and on-off missions are innovative and try to prolon the replay value. Sadly though, these additions are enough. The shooting lacks the intensity of Counter Strike, it lacks the co-op mechanics of Battlefield, t lightning pace of Tribes. No matter what you make it, Section 8 is nothing more than just a dud.
